Bellegarde tells Chiefs not to read too much into Trudeau’s sudden appearance following his re-election

Moments after being re-elected for a third term as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Perry Bellegarde told Chiefs not to read too much into the sudden appearance of an elated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“By a happy coincidence, [Trudeau] was passing through Vancouver and decided to pop in to say congrats,” Bellegarde said during his victory speech.

“Don’t read too much into this, my friends.”

The federal Liberals have already been facing accusations of interfering in the election after Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister was spotted counting ballots and Bellegarde was spotted with a full-back tattoo of him and Trudeau smiling together.
