National Chief Perry Bellegarde and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau traded jabs over which costumes they would wear on Halloween night, during a very public exchange that took place in Ottawa on Monday night.
Each of the leaders wants to be Han Solo, a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. Neither side, it seems, wants to be his sidekick Chewbacca.
“Why should I be Chewie when [Trudeau] actually has longer hair than me?” Bellegarde told reporters.
“It’s painfully obvious to anyone that I should be Solo.”
It’s the worse spat between the two since Halloween in 2017, when neither Trudeau nor Bellegarde would agree on who would be Woody or Buzz Lightyear. In contrast, Métis National Council president Clément Chartier and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami president Natan Obed have already agreed to go out this year as R2D2 and C-3PO, respectively.
