National Chief barred from boarding flight with emotional support MOU

National Chief Perry Bellegarde has been turned away from an Ottawa-bound flight because airline officials refuse to let him board with his emotional support MOU.

The memorandum of understanding is one of dozens signed between the Assembly of First Nations and the Liberal government.

“This one in particular is very precious,” Bellegarde told reporters outside the Vancouver airport. “I can’t fly without it.”

A spokesperson from the airline wouldn’t elaborate on why Bellegarde can’t board with his emotional support MOU in this instance, however he is not alone.

In September, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also denied a flight with his Indigenous support Robert-Falcon Ouellette.
