Canada has increased its security alert level amid reports that Radical Kokums are threatening to strike communities across the country with bannock baking, various wild meat stews and smoke-tanned hides.
The move comes after a faction of Radical Kokumism called The Daughters of Big Bear posted a video to social media calling for all First Nations to ‘pull up your pantses, put down the bingo dabbers of colonialism and rise up.’
“We’re taking this very threat seriously and are monitoring stores for any spikes in Red Rose tea and canned milk sales,” said Public Safety Minister Bill Blair.
“These are tell-tale signs.”
Researchers say Radical Kokumism has been increasing in Indigenous communities across the country as more and more young people behave like much older Indigenous people, including drinking tea with canned milk, perfecting bannock-making or wearing kerchiefs on their heads.
