The Métis National Council has acquired Regional Chief James Nelson from the Assembly of First Nations, the organization announced on Wednesday morning.
That means senior MNC advisor Janice Dumont will be wearing the AFN jersey in Ottawa this season.
“Obviously, this is a bittersweet move for me and I’m facing quite a steep learning curve,” Dumont told reporters outside the MNC dressing room.
“But I’m excited for this new challenge.”
AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde said he’s happy with the trade, even though it means one less member of the Executive Committee. Although Regional Chief Nelson had a good 2017-18 season, tabling three resolutions and assisting in eight others, analysts said the committee was a little top heavy.
In another national political organization shake up, three senior policy analysts from Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami have been sent to the minors.
