Canadian media determines (some) letters posted to senator’s website are racist, not ‘racist’

After over a year of describing them as ‘racist,’ Canadian media outlets are now reporting that a handful of the dozens of letters posted to Senator Lynn Beyak’s website are indeed racist.

The shocking about-face comes on the heels of a report by the Senate’s ethics officer found that Beyak broke the upper chamber’s conflict-of-interest code, which apparently carries absolutely no consequences at all.

“Now that the non-Indigenous ethics officer and his non-Indigenous experts have reviewed the matter, we can report with certainty that five of these letters are indeed racist and not ‘racist,'” said a Canadian Press editor.

“Our headlines will now reflect this.”

However, the editor was quick to point out that refraining from using quotes on racist only applies to this particular story and that all other headlines involving Indigenous people will employ ‘racism’ or refer to situations as ‘racially-tinged.’
