Scientists discover earliest known ancestor of Canadian reconciliation

Scientists said they’ve unearthed the remains of the first person on the continent to practice ‘Canadian-style’ reconciliation.

Originally from Europe, Vlad the Reconciler came to the eastern part of what is now North America in 1535.

“Vlad the Reconciler would drive out the local population of Indigenous people, begin occupying their land, apologize for it, but then simply move on and repeat the process time and time again,” said Jacques St. Balts, who is part of a team of researchers that made the discovery.

“It’s really quite remarkable.”

St. Balts said the practice of perpetrating an atrocity, apologizing for it and then just going ahead and committing another atrocity, laid the groundwork for a brand of reconciliation that continues today in Canada.
