Widespread racism in hockey actually combines to make one big isolated incident: report

Widespread racism in hockey, spread across decades, is actually just one big isolated incident.

That’s according to a new report released on Friday.

“We know it looks like these thousands of incidents of coaches uttering racial slurs, fans at rinks hurling racial epithets at Indigenous players, and even the existence of Don Cherry, seem like an indication that racism in hockey is widespread,” said George Cita, lead author of the report.

“But these incidents actually combine to be one big isolated incident. Like Voltron —only more racist .”

The report, Widespread Racism in Hockey is Actually Just One Big Isolated Incident, comes as a relief to the thousands of people on social media who have defended the sport in recent weeks and deny the very existence of racism itself.
