Fatigued from the high amount of white people claiming things are their ‘spirit animal,’ Lisa Maiingan, an Anishinaabe woman from Sole Lake, Ont., spoke out against the practice on Tuesday.
“How about your spirit name is shut the f***k up?” Maiingan told a 19-year-old Brandon, Man., man who declared that a double-double was his ‘spirit animal.’
“Or you could just shut the f***k up, you know, either or.”
In response, non-Indigenous people have taken to social media to double-down on calling things spirit animals because freedom of speech blah blah blah.
