Nation-to-nation sometimes means scolding Chiefs: Trudeau

September 17, 2018

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is defending his actions after leaked video shows him angry with Saskatchewan Chiefs who went over the time limit for a meeting.

“This is a nation-to-nation relationship, it’s just sometimes the bigger nation has to give the smaller nations a scolding, know what I mean?” Trudeau told reporters.

“They need to know who wears the Great White Father pants around here.”

A spokesperson for the prime minister also said that Canada will still work with First Nations after they’ve had a time out where they can think about their actions.
