Hours after Cree New Democrat MP Romeo Saganash accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of not giving a f*** about Indigenous people—an f-bomb that left several of his colleagues in the House of Commons unconscious—shock waves continue to reverberate in Ottawa and across the nation.
In New York City where he is attending UN meetings, Trudeau is on the offensive.
“On the contrary, our government can produce charts and graphs that show just how much f***s we’ve given since assuming office,” he told reporters.
“In fact, in 2017 alone we gave a record amount of f***s.”
The head of the Assembly of First Nations is also weighing in, saying he understands the frustration behind the Saganash outburst while simultaneously condemning the language used.
“Look we all get a little angry, believe me, I know,” National Chief Perry Bellegarde told reporters. “I was so angry during the Harper years that I said heck once— I’m not proud of it.”
In a rare display of non-partisan solidarity, MPs on all sides of the House of Commons announced that moving forward they’re all going to maintain civility even when not giving a f*** about Indigenous people.
