A security guard at a Winnipeg store who says he doesn’t see colour isn’t letting that stop him from finding creative ways to racially profile Indigenous shoppers.

“I don’t have to see the colour of their skin to know,” said Peter Hitsa, who works in the downtown outlet of Giant Leopard.
“They all have little ‘tells’ and it’s my job to know.”
Hitsa said he has trained himself to hear subtle variations in accents or to recognize certain clothing styles in order to hone in on Indigenous shoppers and begin following them around the store.
In fact. his particular brand of racial profiling is so successful that Hitsa is increasingly being asked to speak at security guard training centres across Canada.
