North of 60 marathon enters 18th year on APTN

January 21, 2019

A marathon airing of the drama series North of 60 has entered its 18th year on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN).

The series, set in the fictional Dene community of Lynx River in the Northwest Territories, originally ran for 57 seasons.

“We are roughly half way through our North of 60 marathon and we couldn’t be happier,” said APTN CEO John LaFleur. “We should be wrapping this baby up somewhere around 2037.”

Network execs said the marathon kicked off in 2001 after a flood of viewer requests. Indeed, some fans of the show, who have been watching ever since said their children and grandchildren have grown up watching it as well.

LaFleur said that once APTN finishes airing the television series it will begin broadcasting the subsequent 675 North of 60 movies, back-to-back. The network also hasn’t ruled out airing the Elsie Tsa’Che spin-off series.
