What’s in Budget 2019 for Indigenous people: The Walking Eagle News guide

The Liberal government’s federal budget has dropped, the last before Canadians head to the polls in October 2019.

What’s in it? Your friends atWalking Eagle News combed through it so you don’t have to:

  • $30-million for pipeline polish
  • Feds introduce Reconciliation Dollars™ which have no financial value but can be redeemed for…actually, we’re not sure what they’re for but they feature Trudeau’s smile.
  • $85-million to rebrand Jane Philpott line of Indian Affairs Glasses™ to Seamus O’Regan Brand Indian Affairs Glasses™ .
  • Words ‘clean water’ crossed out, replaced with ‘high-speed internet.’
  • Crisp $250-thousand, spread out over 25 years, for Indigenous languages support.
  • Over $876-million for study of Indigenous languages by non-Indigenous group.
  • $3-billion for whatever the hell Paul Martin does.
  • Sheila Copps named ‘aboriginal jobs ambassador’ (emphasis on small ‘a’).
  • Feds to roll out $76-million initiative to have ‘reconciliation’ mean whatever Liberals want it to mean at any given time.
  • Couple crisp hunnids spread out over 90 years for houses or something.

That’s about it.
