5 most surprising moments in Gerry Butts testimony

On Wednesday, the Canadian Prime Minister’s former top aide appeared before a committee probing the SNC-Lavalin scandal. Here are some of the most surprising moments in Gerry Butts’ testimony.

WHAT PRESSURE?
Butts started his testimony by telling the committee, “All I said was that the fate of all life on this planet depends on [Wilson-Raybould] striking a deal with SNC-Lavalin, how is that pressure?”

THE GREAT IACOBUCCI
Whenever the committee mentioned retired Supreme Court Justice and renowned Indigenous whisperer Frank Iacobucci, the eyes of everyone in the room would momentarily go black and they would shout “THE GREAT IACOBUCCI” in unison.

SEEING DOUBLES!
At one point during the testimony, Butts’ previously unknown twin entered the room triggering loud gasps. “I believe my twin brother Herald Butts might be the cause of all this fuss,” Butts told the confused members.

WELL, I REMEMBAH!
Liberal MP and devout Trudeau loyalist Randy Boissonnault pulled out a small tape deck and started playing In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins, asking Butts and the committee to ‘really, really listen’ to the lyrics before he was cut off by chair Anthony Housefather.

HALF-TIME SHOW
Indigenous musical legends Redbone performed Come and Get Your Love during the half-time show. Conservative MP Lisa Raitt crowdsurfed.

Expect the drama to continue on Wednesday when totally unbiased and nonpartisan top bureaucrat Michael Wernick testifies in the afternoon.
