The federal government is kicking off an inaugural Indigenous Services Week by continuing its court battles with survivors of day schools and First Nations children demanding compensation for discrimination by the child welfare system.
“This week is all about highlighting our deep commitment to advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and communities,” announced an ecstatic Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Indigenous Services.
“It’s just that reconciliation sometimes means fighting First Nations kids and residential school survivors in court.”
Beyond the announcement, it’s unclear what Indigenous Services Week actually means and a spokesperson for O’Regan said the minister won’t be available for interviews since he’s working from his Newfoundland & Labrador home for the next eight days.
