Fresh from just barely winning the federal election, the Trudeau government is continuing to press forward with its application to quash the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal’s order to compensate First Nations children harmed by the chronically under-funded child welfare system.
“Look, we are steadfast in our commitment to meaningful reconciliation with our First Nations,” said a government spokesperson.
“It’s just that our reconciliation doesn’t include compensating First Nations kids that our system harmed.”
Pure, seething reconciliation is expected to be at record levels when hearings take place in a federal court in November.
