Lawyers for the federal government pumped themselves up with a rousing team chant before entering a federal court to argue against compensating First Nations children impacted by the on-reserve child welfare system.
“Alright guys, we’ve been preparing for this for months,” said lead lawyer Ellen Balts, holding her arms over a huddle of her teammates.
“NOW LET’S GET IN THERE AND RECONCILE THE HELL OUT OF THOSE FIRST NATIONS KIDS! GO!!”
The lawyers began shouting “reconcili-WHAT? ReconciliACTION!” repeatedly before kneeling for a quick prayer.
The hearings are set to take place between Nov. 25-26 in Ottawa. Many Indigenous groups are warning that reconciliation levels are expected to rise to dangerously high levels and are advising people to seek shelter until the hearings end.
