Canada’s premiers are speaking out against the countless images of heavily-armed American police attacking demonstrators, especially since none of the forces uttered land acknowledgements beforehand.
Land acknowledgements are statements made before events or meetings to officially recognize the Indigenous territory or lands it takes place on.
“What kind of a two-bit operation are they running in the U.S?” asked a horrified British Columbia Premier John Horgan.
“At the very least acknowledge they should acknowledge the original inhabitants before sending in heavily-armed police to beat them down.”
The premiers are considering issuing a joint statement calling for an easing of tensions in the United States, while reminding the world that racism doesn’t exist in Canada or something.
