Police urged to view anti-vaccine mandate protesters blocking hospitals as Indigenous people defending land

As protests against vaccination mandates target hospitals in cities across the country, police are being urged to imagine that the large disruptive crowds are Indigenous people defending their land.

“Believe me, we have tried that,” said a spokesperson for the Winnipeg Police Service, standing by and watching as an angry crowd slowed an ambulance.

“But every time we look into their angry little white faces, well, our hearts just melt.”

Once the crowd petered out and dispersed of its own accord, officers went off to over-police Indigenous neighbourhoods before ‘blowing off some steam’ by clearing a park of people living in tents.
