Vatican officials ’embarrassed’ after leading Indigenous delegation to wrong secret vaults

Officials from the Vatican are apologizing after a delegation of Indigenous people were led to the wrong secret vaults while on a tour.

The delegation, which includes First Nation, Inuit and Métis leaders, are in Rome to meet with Pope Francis and seek an apology for the Catholic Church’s role in residential schools.

“We thought, hey, we’re probably not going to apologize but since you’re here did you want to come see the cool Indigenous stuff we sto—I mean, the cool stuff we were gifted from Indigenous people over the years?” a spokesperson for the Holy See said.

“And then, Oopsie Dei, wouldn’t you know it, we took them to the wrong secret vaults!”

Members of the delegation say the mix-up began when they were mistakenly taken to a secret vault containing the Papal Rubies. The gaffes continued when a Vatican official took the group to secret vaults for the Holy Diamonds, the Sacred Gold, the Divine Sapphires, and the Chamber of the Apostolistic Cashola, before finally reaching the secret vault containing Indigenous artifacts.

However, when the delegation asked about files related to the residential schools system they were told that those are in another secret vault, two Vaticans over, and they can’t find the combination for the lock just now.
